Mary Karlovec

Mary has been our CE Director for more than 10 years now.  She brings an exuberance and love to this calling.  Mary is a teacher with 31 years experience, currently teaching 2nd grade in the Elyria City Schools. She is a life-long member of First Congregational, as well as being among the 4th generation of her family to attend!  She is happily married to Bob, and their son, Matt, curently attends Heidelberg College.

Mary not only shares her considerable talets and experience with our family, she also serves the entire Western Reserve of the UCC!  She is a member of the Western Reserve Association Education Board and the Youth/Young Adults Advisory Council.  In these roles, Mary is instrumental in formulating programs for all of the churches in the Western Reserve

Mary's credentials are hard to argue with.  Consider these achievements:

• Bachelor's Degree from Kent State University in Special Education (Mild/Moderate) and Elementary Education (grades 1-8)
• Master's Degree from Kent State University in Supervision/Instruction
• 2006 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math/Science Teacher Awardee for science for State of Ohio
• 2007 E-Tech Teacher of the Year for the State of Ohio
• 2007 UCC Excellence in Teaching Award - presented to Mary at the 26th General Synod in Hartford, Connecticut
• 2008 Gale Teams Award winner for elementary school teacher/media specialist collaborations in the United States

All this, plus Mary is one of the most energetic, dedicated people you will ever meet.  She brings all of this to our youth, and we are truly blessed to have her as part of our family!
